PlayHT
A former AI voice generator; PlayHT (PlayAI) was acquired by Meta in 2025 and announced its platform would shut down.
What is PlayHT?
PlayHT, also known as PlayAI, was a text-to-speech and voice cloning platform used for voiceovers, audiobooks and voice agents. Meta acquired the company in 2025, and the platform announced it would shut down, which led many users to move to other voice tools.
PlayHT offered realistic AI voices in many languages, voice cloning and an API for developers building voice apps and agents.
In 2025, Meta acquired PlayAI. Reports and transition guides from other providers say the PlayHT platform was set to shut down by the end of 2025, with API disruptions before that date.
If you relied on PlayHT for voiceovers, export any audio and scripts you still have, and test replacement voices before your next project.
Alternatives include Murf, ElevenLabs and Deepgram for speech, depending on whether you need a studio or an API.
